Melbourne Food & History
We can't talk about Melbourne's rich food and restaurant history without discussing one of our earliest and greatest imports, Mietta O'connor. Founder of Mietta's restuarant, the first to serve nouvelle-style cuisine and introduce fine dining. As a husband and wife team, the family run business first opened their doors on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy- then a ghost town. WIth friend and great Australian food influencer Stephanie Alexander down the road in Jamaican Kitchen. Miette's later moved to a larger venue in Melbourne's Albert Place, and is now a true reference point in tracing our rich food history.
Remembering Mietta's was a talk hosted by State Library of Victoria, and a video of the panelled discussion can be viewed here http://www.slv.vic.gov.au/view-discuss/remembering-miettas
